Description
To start a game, press Space or P from the title screen. To abort a game you
are playing, hold down Ctrl and press Esc. The sound can be turned on and off
while playing with Ctrl-S.
Animac is a game for one player. The rules are: don't get hit. If you are hit,
you lose a ship. When you have lost all your ships, the game is over. Hitting
the walls does not destroy your ship. Colliding with any enemy does destroy it,
except for the small, diamond-shaped objects, called Bella. These are Information
Locations, which can be picked up and stored by your ship. When you touch one,
it is moved to a storage box on the right-hand side of the screen. When the box
is filled, you receive an extra ship, and the box is emptied. A Bella may also
be shot, the points received for doing this vary.
Bridges are not an enemy, but an obstacle. They do not occur until late in the game,
you will probably play many games without encountering a single bridge. Your ship
can pass under a bridge without being affected by it, but if you go on the bridge,
by flying at it in the direction its two ends face, you will be unable to get off
of it except by flying to the other end. There are also warps scattered throughout
the game. They are invisible, finding them is usually a matter of luck, though there
may be very subtle visual hints indicating where they are.
The purpose of a warp is not to get out of having to do the difficult rooms, but to
spare an experienced player from having to repeat the same rooms each time he plays.
A warp is in the same location every time, but each warp is triggered in a different way.
