Description
ARRAKIS is a fan-made sequel to the Westwood Studios title Dune II. It is a real time strategy game based on a sci-Fi theme. Arrakis is very similar
to Dune II in gameplay, graphics and sound effects, but has a slightly increased difficulty level. The game was created by the Dutch programmer and
Dune enthusiast, Stefan Hendriks.
Arrakis is a single-player game where the player takes command of one of the three houses which have been sent to the planet Arrakis by the emperor
to take command over it. The planet of Arrakis houses the powerful drug Melange, which the emperor is in dire need of. To conquer the planet, the player
must lead three campaigns, each time leading a different house- Atreides, the Harkonnens and the Ordos. There are a total of thirty campaigns, divided
equally between the three houses. The objective of every campaign is displayed on the screen at the beginning. These objectives can range from harvesting
certain units of spice, building breweries to store them and destroying enemies which would try to disrupt the process from time to time.
The difficulty level is slightly higher due to the fact that the spices are more expensive and rarer, making each mission more time consuming. In between
these campaigns, the game offers skirmish rounds where the player can play a random set against AI opponents. These skirmish rounds have adjustable
difficulty level and customizable number of spice fields. Although each house has at their disposal the same technology, each of them have their own
strengths and weaknesses which the commander needs to successfully utilize in order to lead a successful campaign.
