Description
ATOMIC TETRIS is a puzzle game based on it’s highly successful predecessor, Tetris. Atomic Tetris offers a variation to the Tetris gaming model by introducing
some surprise elements such as power bricks which can be detrimental to the opponent. The game was released in 1991 and uses the DOS platform.
Unlike a regular tetris game, Atomic tetris is strictly a 2-player game, and cannot be played against the computer as an opponent. Both players use the same
input device, the keyboard. The gameplay is similar to tetris, wherein the player needs to stack and organize falling blocks to earn points.
The goal is to score as many points as possible by clearing the horizontal lines of blocks. The falling blocks can be rotated to a full 360 degrees to make them
fit in the building blocks. The lines are cleared when the playing field is filled up completely and there is no space to fit anymore blocks horizontally.
As more and more horizontal lines are cleared, the level increases and so does the difficulty level. However, Atomic tetris introduces power bricks which can
completely change the outcome of the game. These power bricks, called Specials, can deter the opponent from reaching high scores by derailing the progress of the
game. There are a total of thirteen power bricks or specials in the game. Their properties range from switching the screen, minimising the opponent’s building
blocks to small dots, clearing the screen, etc. The game comes to an end when any of the building blocks land above the playing field.
