Description
Avenger is an action video game with Sci-Fi and futuristic themes. The game was developed in Finland and released in 1997.
Avenger draws inspiration from many similar arcade-style games of the time. It can be categorized as a classic shooter game with
an interesting backdrop of an intergalactic conflict. The game is set in the year 2254, at a Space station called Finlanda located
over four light years from Earth. The space station is suddenly ambushed by unknown forces who arrive on strange spaceships and
destroy Finlanda’s escort vessel. The player enters the scene in the role of a pilot who was away on a vacation and is surprised
to find the space station under attack by enemy spaceships. The player then embarks on the task of eliminating as many invaders as
possible and regaining control of the space station. The goal is to kill as many enemies as possible and achieve high scores.
The game offers two modes: Normal and Challenge, however, the challenge mode isn’t available in the Shareware version.
The player also gets to choose between the single-player and two-player modes, although both players would need to use the same keyboard.
The left or right arrow keys can be used to navigate the player’s ship while the ALT key can be used to fire the main weapon.
Upgrades are available in the form of weapon speed, more shields, and new weapons. The F1 key is for adjusting the speed and the Right
CTRL key is for firing a secondary weapon. The enemy attacks can be unpredictable and haphazard, and hence efficient use of weapons and
quick navigation is essential for survival in the game.
