Description
Beyond columns is a replicate of the traditional column game that was released in 1989. The puzzle game was published and developed by Brad P. Taylor LLC for DOS
platforms. Initially, the game was released in the US. The real-time arcade game features falling block puzzles and arcade gameplay. The game was succeeded by the
sequel named Fallout. The puzzle game Beyond columns is set in a real-time, arcade, and falling block theme.
Originally the puzzle game was invented by Jay Geersten of Hewlett Packard for the X windows system. Later, he enjoyed the version being ported by Nathan Meyers
for IBM.
In the game, there are falling blocks that hold distinct tiles on them. The different sets of tiles move down the screen, and the falling speed increases gradually
with time. The player is required to match the three or more same-colored tiles in a row. The row can be diagonal, left or right, upwards or downwards.
After the match is made, the row gets cleared from the screen. The player gets awarded more points if he can match more than three same-colored tiles in a row.
Moreover, the player can even rotate the falling pieces by pressing 5 or K.
In the later stages, the boss key function and screen with high scores were also included in the gameplay. The game features decent sound and graphics. It not only
sharpens your mind but also helps you work in a time rush as the speed of falling blocks increases.
