Description
Blitzkrieg at the Ardennes simulates one of the most decisive battles of WWII.
On Dec.16, 1944, to coincide with several days of bad weather, Hitler ordered
directive "Wacht am Rhine". The German plan was to quickly strike weakened
Allied lines in Belgium and Luxemburg and to breakthrough and push quickly to
the Meuse River to capture the Liege and finally the port city of Antwerp.
The capture of Antwerp was essential to postpone the invasion of Germany, and
give the Fuhrer a chance to honor his promises of secret weapons that would win
the war. But the chances of success were remote. The Germans were desperately
low on fuel and the Allies had firm control of the air, and strategic superiority
in Europe.
Blitzkrieg at the Ardennes is an interactive computer simulation composed of
rules, a terrain map and set of units representing the opposing forces. The map
or battlefield is an area composed of 1700 hexagonal cells {hexes]. Each cell is
assigned a terrain type of mountain, plain, forest, city or siegfried.
