| INTRODUCTION |
----------------
Get ready to stop the invasion with CHAMP Invaders, the seventh release
from CHAMProgramming. This game offers three modes of play: Classic,
which is like an arcade version; CHAMP, which has enhanced graphics,
sounds, and power-ups; and Deluxe Classic, which is like Classic with the
addition of intermissions, splitting and dropping invaders, and much more.
CHAMP Invaders has three skill modes for one or two players. You can
choose from a joystick, mouse, or keyboard for your controller, as well
as the special CHAMP Cable(tm) (sold separately) with an old ATARI (R)
digital joystick.
We hope you enjoy the results.

| PLAYING THE GAME |
--------------------
The object of CHAMP Invaders is to stop the invasion of hostile aliens!
Use your controller to aim your laser cannon and press the fire button to
launch your missiles. You can only fire one missile at a time, so you must
wait until your shot either hits something or reaches the top of the playfield.
You start the game with 3 lives (5 in EASY mode). A bonus laser cannon is
awarded every 5,000 points. The game ends when all cannons have been
destroyed.
CHAMP Mode Enhancements
-----------------------
Playing Invaders in CHAMP Mode is similar to Classic mode, with these
additions:
THE INVADERS!
CHAMP Mode Invaders has 5 different types of enemies, each with their
own special attack mode:
Drones
The yellow Drones simply fire down at you and maneuver from left and
right. They are a 'polished' enhancement of the original Invaders.
Demons
The purple Demons fly down towards your laser cannon when there's an
opening in front of them. You should try to destroy these invaders
quickly before they land and take over Earth!
Deflectors
The Deflectors are huge red invaders that can absorb one of your
missile shots before being destroyed. They act as a shield for the
other attacking invaders.
Gorgons
The green Gorgons are the children of the Hatchers. They are just
learning the ropes about invading other planets, but still can fire
missiles and are tough to hit with their sleeker frame.
Hatchers
The Hatchers usually ride along the top of the invaders nursing their
young, the Gorgons. If you destroy a Gorgon, a Hatcher will produce
an egg that will eventally hatch into a Gorgon if not destroyed
immediately.
The Mother Ship
The Mother Ship will periodically fly by the group of invaders to see
how the battle is going. Be careful! If the mother ship gets an
opening, it will fire a searing green laser that cuts through anything
in it's path, including your shields! Destroying the Mother Ship will
earn extra fireballs and guided missiles to aid in your attack. The
number of guided missiles and fireballs awarded depends on the weapon
you use to destroy it:
Destroy with Guided missiles Fireballs
--------------------------------------------------------------
Laser cannon 1 1
Guided missile 2 1
Fireball 1 2
THE WEAPONS
To defend against the new batch of invaders, your cannon is equipped
with some new weapons:
Laser cannon
The laser cannon has unlimited ammunition and can destroy most invaders
with one shot.
Guided missiles
Your ship also has a limited number of guided missiles. Unlike the laser
cannons, these weapons will lock onto a target. These 'smart' missiles
can pass through your shields without any damage. Additional missiles are
given at the end of each level and when you destroy the Mother Ship.
To launch a guided missile, push UP and the fire button.
Fireballs
A limited number of fireballs are also included in your arsenal at the
start of the game. Unlike guided missiles and lasers, the fireball can
take out an entire column of invaders in one shot! The fireball will
also rip through your shields, so choose your shots wisely. The only
thing that can stop it is the Mother Ship's green laser, which it
destroys on impact. Additional fireballs are awarded at the end of
each level and for destroying the Mother Ship.
To unleash a fireball, push DOWN and the fire button.

For example: To disable the sound card detection, you would type:
INVADERS -s
Sound Card problems
-------------------

can always select Auto Detect and let the program try to determine the values,
though this may lock up your computer. To keep these manual settings, use the
-a switch when running the program (see above).
If you program stops working for some reason, you may need to delete the
