Description
Chacal 3D is an action game that was released in 2000. It is a fan-made shooter game, combining the mechanics of Doom and Jackal
where two players can play simultaneously on the same screen. Chacal 3D is a French game but is known as Jackal 3D in the United
States and other English-speaking nations. It can be played by up to 2 players and runs on the DOS platform.
The gameplay is simple, the two players shoot enter the enemy territory, and try to kill anything in sight. The players must keep
shooting until all the enemies have been eliminated. Players get a first-person perspective into the gaming field. The game used
the "Doom" engine's capabilities to create a 3D environment, enhancing the visual experience compared to the original 2D arcade
game. It features orthogonal walls, sprites to represent objects and players, and three types of gaming backgrounds; day, night
and fog. It uses a combination of keyboard and mouse inputs for movement and combat. The game has only sound effects and no music.
There are a few maps to choose from and a change of weaponry is allowed from time to time. Four types of weapons are featured in
the game - Pistols, rockets, rifles, and plasma grenades. Players can even create their own maps using ASCII code.
This fan-made project highlights the potential of combining different game mechanics and styles to create something new and
engaging. Developed by fans of both "Jackal" and "Doom," this project showcases the creativity and dedication of the gaming
community.
