Description
Chomps or Chomp is an action and arcade game that was released in the United States in the year 1983.
It was developed by ensign software and released on the DOS platform. Chomps is very similar to Pacman
in design and gameplay, which is another popular arcade maze game released in 1980. The player controls
a smiley face and attempts to collect all the Dots in the maze, while carefully avoiding the monsters
moving around in the maze. Coming in contact with any of these monsters will cost the player a life.
Each monster has a unique way of chasing and the player must avoid collision with them at all costs.
The player can defend himself against the monster by collecting the power dots, after which a player
can chase down a monster and catch them to gain bonus points. Occasionally, an additional bonus item is
introduced in the maze and if collected, the player gets awarded bonus points. The scores are displayed
at the top of the screen, and the levels are indicated by the flower icon at the bottom. The game is played
over four different mazes, and the objective is to clear each maze. The difficulty level of the game increases
in each maze and the monsters become faster, hence the player needs to demonstrate excellent reflexes to
cross each level. The game has a top-down perspective and is considered one of the superior arcade games
of that time. The game characters are made to look cute and colorful to appeal to the younger generation.
