Description
CYBERRACE is an action and racing game released in 1993 on the DOS platform. The game was published and developed by the American company Cyberdreams, Inc.
The game is best known for its high-tech and futuristic car designs, courtesy of the famous Hollywood designer Syd Mead, who also designed the sets of the movie
Blade runner. Unlike most racing games of the era, CYBERRACE has an interesting storyline that forms the premise of an equally engaging and exciting gaming scenario.
The game is set several years in the future where all intergalactic disputes are being settled through a racing game that hardly has any rules and with little to no
regard for the safety of the racers. From making an opponent’s car burst into flames, to driving someone off the cliff, nothing is off limits. The main protagonist
in the game is Shaw, who is the son of a famed champion but who fell victim to a tragic and mysterious accident. Shaw not only has to win the race, but also avenge
his father. However, in a dramatic turn of events Shaw is forced to race for the very people who were responsible for the death of his father when his girlfriend
is kidnapped by an evil force. Shaw must now race to save his girlfriend and uncover the ulterior motives of a select few. There are several levels in the game and
the races occur in various stages. The player is awarded money for winning each race, which can be used to upgrade his vehicle and buy better weapons and ammunition
at the start of every level. Owing to the futuristic nature of the game, many practical and earthly concepts like friction have been completely overlooked.
The sleek designs of the racing cars add to the overall look and feel of the game to create a true futuristic and intergalactic racing experience. The racer only
has one objective, to destroy as many opponents as possible. The game offers a first-person perspective with fairly easy controls to navigate through the toughest
of terrains. The player can also get an exterior view of the proceedings if they prefer.
