Description
Destination: Mars! is an educational game with a Sci-Fi and futuristic theme. The game was released in 1995 and runs on DOS,
Apple II, and Macintosh platforms. Destination Mars is built on the premise that in the future, space explorations will be
carried out by private groups, each trying to dominate the space race. The player assumes the role of a space pilot employed
by one such private group who will embark on a mission to navigate uncharted territories and make new advancements in the
field of space exploration. Several smaller missions and experiments must be completed before one can move on to the advanced
Mars mission. The player must complete all the experiments and missions successfully, beating out the competitors to become
the first person to land on Mars. The mission begins with the player mounting on a spacecraft and leaving the earth's
atmosphere, most of which is done in auto-pilot mode. Immediately after the launch, the player must guide the shuttle into
the orbit which involves flipping switches at proper times and moving the throttle to certain positions. One must look out
for turbulence during which the flight will automatically shift into manual mode and it's up to the player to maneuver the
spacecraft. the first few missions are low-orbit missions where the player needs to conduct various experiments such as
observing volcanoes and identifying eruptions at volcano sites. As the levels progress, the challenges become complex
involving space stations and Mars. Destination Mars can be played using the keyboard and Joystick.
