Description
Dragonriders of Pern is a strategy game with a fantasy theme. It is based on the well-known fantasy novel series of the same name.
The game was released in 1987 and runs on Atari, Commodore 64, and DOS platforms. It is set on the fantasy planet Pern, where
dragons and humans live side by side. The land is divided into territories, called holds, managed by Weyrs. A strange phenomenon
often plagues the land of Pern, the appearance of the Red star followed by a deadly silver thread that falls from the sky.
The only way to save the planet from this calamity is to burn the thread using the fire-spitting dragons. This can be achieved
only by bringing together all the communities and developing an effective strategy. The player assumes the role of a representative
of an important wyer and is tasked with negotiating with the other wyers, winning their confidence, and working out a strategy
effective enough to save the planet. The game is divided into two stages- negotiations and combat. During the negotiations, the
player will encounter several characters with distinct personalities. To win these negotiations, the player must adopt a different
approach to each of them, keeping the common goal in mind. Negotiations might fail due to a variety of reasons and the player must
be prepared to re-strategize accordingly. In the second stage, the players in aerial combat against the Thread, controlling dragon
riders to flame the spores out of the sky. controlling the dragon and steering it in the right direction is no easy task and will
take a lot of practice to master.
