Description
Gear Works is a puzzle game developed and published by Idea Software. It was released in 1992
for Windows 3.x, Game Gear, Game Boy, DOS, Commodore 64, and Amiga platforms. The puzzle game
features top-down perspective and flip screen or fixed visuals. It is played from point and
select interface. Gear works is a single-player game that can be played using a joystick.
The top-down game Gear works begin with a screen that features several red cogs at numerous parts
of the screen along with an assembly of pegs. The assembly becomes less complete in the successive
levels. The task of the player on each stage is to utilize the count of gears of one of three
distinct sizes to make sure that all the cogs are connected together. All this needs to be completed
before the engine gets overheated.
Life becomes harder because of two creatures who have peculiar names. The creatures carrying the name
‘Poffins’ irritate the player. One of them goes around the screen and removes pegs.
Whereas, the other speeds up the heating of the engine. The only way to stop the two creatures can
only be stopped by either shooting them out of the way or placing the gears over them to prevent
their movement.
Gear works also features a bonus round which comprises a fruit machine. It consists of only cogs
and other elements from the game instead of the fruit. Moreover, with the successive levels, the
difficulty of the game increases and it continues to become challenging.
