Description
Hellfire Zone is an action video game developed by Panoramic Software that runs on the DOS platform. The game was released in 1995 in several European countries.
The player gets to pilot an Apache helicopter and is tasked with rescuing captured pilots from enemy strongholds. To accomplish the task, the player will need to
fly deep into enemy territory and destroy their strongholds to get to the imprisoned pilots. The helicopter is armed with hellfire and stinger missiles, flares,
and chain guns. However, the enemies are equipped with powerful weapons that can bring down the helicopter and foil the mission. The player must battle with enemy
tanks, choppers, and shots fired from the ground. Mid-air explosions are depicted very realistically in the game. The sound effects are good too. Excessive damage
over the course of the mission could also bring the helicopter down, hence one must be careful to avoid attacks as much as possible. The player needs to refuel from
time to time to avoid a crash landing. Extra weapons can also be picked up by landing the helicopter close to them. Hellfire Zone has incorporated all the tried and
tested elements of the genre and yet falls short of making it remarkable. There is very little variety in the action sequences or locations. However, there are many
takers for the game among the fans of the action genre, the ones who prefer a classic military-style action game over the more strategic and complicated ones.
The game can be played with the keyboard or mouse.
