Description
Hextris is a modification of Tetris, the classic puzzle game which is a pioneer of the genre. Hetrix was released Worldwide in 1991 and runs on DOS, Macintosh, and Linux.
Like Tetris, Hextris is a puzzle game where the player needs to arrange the falling blocks into one large block. The only difference is the blocks are Hexagonal in shape
instead of Square. The Hexagonal shape increases the difficulty level greatly, as a larger number of sides means they are more difficult to arrange. The background is black,
and blocks of different colors fall into a small area marked by white hexagonal walls. The blocks of the same color need to be arranged together for them to be eliminated.
Each level is more difficult than the previous one. The player earns one point for placing each block properly, and 25 points are awarded for each line that is removed.
The scores are displayed on the top left corner of the screen, along with the number of lines. The next block about to appear is also displayed so the player gets a few
seconds to prepare. To win, the player must keep the number of lines to a minimum. If the lines overflow the playing field, the level is lost. Despite having no soundtrack
or variety of backgrounds, Hextris is a great hit among the fans of Tetris. This simple yet entertaining game can keep the player engaged for several hours. It can also be
greatly addictive for some people. The game can be played using the Keyboard.
