Highway Fighter is an Action game developed and published by the Russian enterprise, Omega Integral Systems. The game was released in 1994 on the DOS platform. Despite being released in Russia, the game language is entirely English.
The player controls a vehicle loaded with weapons and is on the road, trying to locate and destroy a dangerous criminal organization. As the player drives down the long and windy roads at each level, they face several challenges. There are enemy vehicles coming from the opposite direction, also equipped with weapons. The player must carefully avoid a collision or being shot down while trying to take down the enemies. A laser cannon is the most powerful weapon that can be used on enemies to turn them into dust in a few seconds. Weapon upgrades are available along the way; bombs, shields, and a bonus that enables the car to kill opponents by simply running into them need to be picked up and used efficiently. The shields available are of three types- One of them rotates around the car and kills enemy cars on coming in contact with them, the other kind clears the enemy’s screen setting them up for a crash, and the third kind is for protection. The long roads with sharp twists and turns, the complicated weaponry and the quick-paced action sequences greatly increase the difficulty level of the game. The advanced levels are particularly challenging and need strong expertise and skills to be able to win. Overall, Highway Fighter is a fun and engaging game that could challenge even the more experienced gamers.
