MaxMan is not for sale through retail facilities. It is distributed as
shareware on an "I trust you" basis and is not in any form to be considered
public domain or free. Considerable effort went into creating the program and
I'm retaining full protection under the copyright laws. However, I also want
you to be able to share my games with your friends. So, please feel free to
hand on as many copies as you would like, as long as you include the original
BAT file and all of the document files.
There are no set prices for my games. I leave their value up to you. If you
are going to use MaxMan for your personal enjoyment, whether you got it from a
software distributor or a friend, please mail a check to me at the above
address. Your donation towards each programs creation is appreciated. In
exchange, I'll add your name to the list of those eligible for updates,
contests, and additional games. For example, I hope soon to have a joystick
added to many of them. I'd also like your comments and suggestions. If you
wish, you may use the registration and order form by typing PRINT SHAREME.REG
at the DOS prompt.
Like many of my games, MaxMan is designed for full color with high resolution
MDA, EGA or CGA displays and should run on most PC's and work alikes. If you
have any problems, let me know.
MAXMAN is slightly similar to "PAC-MAN". In MaxMan, you start out as a skinny
guy. When you get one of the magic apples "@", you gain sufficient energy to
change shape. When your energy, shown in the upper right corner of the screen
is above zero, you can destroy the green gremlins and gain more energy. You
loose strength for each step you take. The little coins provide only a small
boost. You can save energy if you need to hide by leaning on a wall. If one
of the gremlins gets you, your ghost may turn into what I call a Grim Reaper.
The Grim Reapers are extremely hard to get. You must have sufficient energy to
gain a bright face. The higher your score, the more gremlins you'll have to
"face" in the next round. The number of bright stars in the squares provide an
indication of what level you're playing. It takes some doing to get them all
lit. Press the cursor keys to change the direction MaxMan is going. The <TAB>
key will speed things up and <SHIFT><TAB> will slow it down. You may press the
Escape key anytime to exit the program.
Before the start of each game MaxMan will display your best score for the game
series. MaxMan now also keeps a score file called MAXMAN.TOP on disk with the
date, time, and top score. If you want to start over you can rename or delete
the file. If you beat the top score you must play again to get credit for it.
You may copy the MaxMan files into any directory on hard disk or another
floppy. The only real requirement is that all of the files associated with
the game, except for its BAT file, must be in the same directory. You may
activate the program directly, with a BAT file, or from ActMenu. If you put
MaxMan on your hard disk, you may have to adapt the BAT file for your system.
Good luck, and let me know if you enjoy MaxMan, Chris
P.S. You can disable this message by removing the 'TYPE' and 'PAUSE' entries
from your personalized BAT file. Please retain the original BAT file if you
are going to pass MaxMan along.
