Description
Ninja Gaiden is an Arcade action game developed by Tecmo, Ltd. It is the first game of the Ninja Gaiden franchise. The game is available on
the DOS, Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, and Lynx platforms. Ninja Gaiden enjoyed huge commercial success in North America and went on to become
the highest-grossing Arcade game in the United States in 1989.
The player assumes the role of a Ninja employed by the Government of the United States to eliminate a dangerous enemy called Bladedamus, who has
kidnapped the President of the United States. Bladedamus is the leader of a cult and calls himself a descendent of the ancient soothsayer Nostradamus
who made end-of-the-world predictions in the 14th century. Bladedamus has taken it upon himself to turn those predictions into reality by destroying
the world himself. To succeed in his plans, Bladedamus flooded the streets of the United States and released dangerous criminals from Alcatraz before
kidnapping the President. He now has codes for Intercontinental Ballistic missiles which can bring about major destruction.
The Ninja must find Bladedamus and defeat him before he can succeed in his evil plans. The game is carried out in six stages, the first five occurring
at prime locations in the United States like North Carolina, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Brooklyn, and New York. The last stage occurs inside the
enemy hideout. The player defeats his enemies with a combination of ninja moves like the flying neck throw, Hang Kick, Tightrope Walk, and Phoenix
Backflip. Apart from fighting enemies, the player can also destroy random things like dumpsters and telephone booths to uncover hidden bonus items
that award him extra points, additional lives, and time extensions.
