Description
Offensive is a war simulation inspired by World War II. The game was developed by Wave Software Ltd. and released in 1996, in Germany and the United States.
Offensive is a strategy game where the player leads the command of the army at a recreated World War II battle. There are 20 different battle scenarios to
choose from and the player can choose to play from either the Axis forces or Allied forces. The battle scenarios are all well-known historical accounts such
as Operation Pegasus bridge, the Battle of Normandy, the capture of Berlin, etc. The commander has at their disposal, a huge infantry, armor, tanks, guns,
battle trucks, and ammunition. The commander is provided a map of the area with three different zoom angles. Any offscreen battle in the nearby area is depicted
by crossed swords. The commander controls his unit by four major commands- move to, attack, hold area, and retreat. It is a single-player game which means the
player will be up against a computer-controlled opponent. At the start of every level, the player needs to select a defending unit and give it instructions
in the form of one of the four commands. Reinforcements are provided from time to time and the player needs to ensure the unit can hold the battle until then.
Air support is also available and can be deployed when needed. The game can be paused and resumed later. Each level has a level code that the player can enter
at the start of the game to play the desired level directly.
