Description
Oleg Sobolev's ASCII DOOM is an action video game, released in 1999. It runs on the DOS platform. It is a fan-made game that is inspired heavily by the popular
action title Doom.
ASCII DOOM is a first-person shooter game. The player needs to eliminate all enemies while finding their way of out a maze. The player is armed with a shotgun
alone. Inside the maze, there are several enemies and a lot of infighting among different groups. The player needs to advance in the maze shooting down the
enemies and safeguarding themselves from enemy bullets. Once a potential target is located, the player gets a magnified view of the target and hit them at a
specific part of the body. The player can also back up a little bit and get an intermediate view to focus better on the target. The player needs to keep shooting
until their enemy falls to the ground, dead. The game mostly provides a first-person perspective, but when run on the Windows console, the player can get a side
view. ASCII Doom can be considered a basic no-frills version of the DOOM games, without any of the embellishments or hi-tech machinery, or rough terrain of the
other versions. It is a single-player game, and the controls of the game are also fairly simple. The game is played with the keyboard, the Left Arrow key can be
used to go back to the previous screen and the Right arrow key can be used to get to the next screen.
