Description
On the Road is a managerial game developed by Expert Software. The game was released in 1992 in Germany and is available on DOS, Amiga, and Atari ST platforms.
The player takes the role of a manager in a transportation company. The goal is to safely transport goods from one place to another while generating maximum
profits for the company. The manager needs to guide the driver of the vehicle over the radio by making them aware of the speed limits and specific driving
restrictions in some countries. The manager needs to engage in buying and selling trucks, insurance, managing the routes and assignments, dealing with financial
aspects, and exploring opportunities for expansion in other locations. The manager also needs to effectively schedule downtimes for the drivers to prevent
fatigue and health issues. At times the manager needs to also deal with lawsuits or transportation of illegal items. The manager mainly operates from their
cabin at the head office but at times may also need to travel to other destinations to tackle some of these issues in person. Many actions are done via an
in-game computer. The game can be played by up to 6 players and the game language is German. It offers a menu-based gameplay which means the player needs to
click on specific options in the menu to operate them. The mouse is the only input device the game supports. The game successfully brings to light the challenges
of managing the everyday operations of an organization and manages to make a seemingly boring industry fun and entertaining.
