Description
Poof is a puzzle game developed and published by Eclipse and released in 1994. It is a single-player game that can be controlled
with the mouse. The game is inspired by traditional peg solitaire games and involves jumping pegs over each other to remove them
from the board, with the aim of leaving only a single peg. The gaming board consists of an arrangement of holes, laid out in
a criss-cross fashion. In these holes, a few pegs are randomly placed. The player must jump over an adjoining peg to reach a hole
on the other side, eliminating the adjoining peg from the game. The cycle continues until only one peg remains on the game board.
If a player fails to accomplish the task within a limited number of moves, the game will restart and the player fails the level.
Poof offers ten levels, each with varying difficulty levels. The initial levels are quite simple, but the complexity gradually
increases as one progresses through the game. Board layouts become more intricate and the number of pegs increases at each level
making the task more challenging. The player can choose any level to play from the main menu. The graphics are simple but
functional, focusing on a clear representation of the board and pegs. The graphics are accompanied by basic sound effects.
With its simple yet addictive mechanics, Peg stands as a notable example of an early 1990s puzzle video game, providing
entertainment and mental stimulation to its players. It is often appreciated for its ability to improve cognitive functions like
planning, spatial awareness, and logical thinking.
