Description
Portal of Worlds is an adventure game with a Sci-Fi theme. The game was released in 1998 and runs on the DOS platform.
The title screen features a portal that leads to a different dimension. On entering the portal, the player will cross over to an
alternate dimension and has to select the next course of action from a set of options on the screen. The game has four different
worlds or dimensions, but the fourth has to be unlocked with a crystal. The task is to look for the crystal in the three worlds to
unlock the fourth. To accomplish the task, the player must select the correct option displayed on each screen.
All of the four worlds are similar to each other and are made of both natural and mechanical objects. The worlds contain houses,
caves, roads, electrical towers, etc, which the player must explore to find the crystal. Although the gameplay is simple, Portal of
Worlds stands out for its unique concept of traveling between different worlds through portals. The game’s multiple worlds and
diverse environments add depth and variety to the gameplay. It is a single-player game and can be controlled using the keyboard.
The player gets a first person perspective into the gaming environment. The game was developed using Qbasic, hence features very
simple yet functional graphics. The objects are represented by pictorial descriptions on white or fluorescent colors in the
backdrop of a black background. The game is very easy to navigate, leveraging the strengths and limitations of Qbasic perfectly.
