Description
Your aim in REDGHOST is to complete the objectives set at various missions around the world.
You will be required to destroy installations, capture prisoners, release hostages and recover
material. To do this you are given control of the First Unit of the Special Tactical Action Group
(STAG).
STAG is a secret military organization created by the world powers to counter the threat from
REDGHOST. Its personnel are made up of ex-members of the special services from different
countries. Each STAG unit consists of sixteen men with various specialities. You must make a
strategic plan for each mission. Select and equip the appropriate personnel and provide them with
fighting transport. Your resources are limited. If your men are killed in action they will not be
replaced and to a large extent you depend on equipment which you have captured during the
progress of your mission.
Each of your men has strengths and weaknesses. Where a person is weak you can increase his
performance and probability of survival by equipping him with the appropriate kit. Where a person
is strong you can enhance his performance by providing him with the appropriate kit. Your men
will always perform better at their specialist tasks.
You can select any number of personnel up to a maximum of sixteen for each mission provided
you have sufficient transport to carry them. Your men will be split into teams which will relate to
the transport you have allocated for them. The teams will always be designated by the initial letter
of the first person in that team. Some transport is capable of carrying passengers. However,
remember that the larger the number of people on the transport the greater the risk you run if it
is destroyed.
Your personnel fight from their vehicles in the real time landscape. You can control them directly
or give them separate sets of orders which they will obey, whether you are present or not. From
the Mission Map you can order your troops into close quarter combat. They can lay mines,
sabotage or capture buildings, destroy or capture transport. When you capture certain buildings,
you will retain any equipment or transport at them provided you successfully complete your
mission. Captured items are automatically transferred to your pool at the end of each mission.
You cannot use it until you have successfully completed the mission, but you can use any
operational enemy transport that you may capture during the progress of the mission you are
engaged in. Throughout any mission you can commit additional teams at any time provided you
have the personnel and transport to spare.
