Rock and Bach Studio is an educational musical simulation in the form of a video game, with primary focus on classical music. It is a part
of the educational game series ‘Adventure with Addison’. The game was developed by Artech Digital Entertainments, Inc. and published by
Binary Zoo Software, Inc. in 1993. The game runs on the DOS platform.
The main protagonist of the game is Edison, who produces music video clips in a music studio. Edison takes a player through the entire
production cycle from the composition of the song, selection of musical instruments and band members, to the shooting of the video.
Before the game begins the player is educated on the basics of music such as chords and notes. The player gets acclimated to the sound of each
instrument and learns to adjust them to get the desired effect. The player can pick compositions of famous composers and play them on the
instruments using the correct settings. One also gets to learn about famous composers and their brilliant compositions, which are considered
classics in the musical world. The final composition is created by four band members each handling a different instrument. While producing
the video, The player can customize the background view, camera angle and special effects to their liking. Edison’s looks can be adjusted
from the main menu, so can the looks and sounds of the drum base. Rock and Bach studio provides excellent insights into the process of music
production and the overall music industry as whole and gives players a sense of how much music has advanced in terms of technology.
