Satori - A solitaire tile game
Another Rinzai Satori Production
 Overview
As yin follows yang, so follows Satori on the heels of
Xaptron. You may remember Xaptron, the EGA/VGA shoot-em-up, the
last Rinzai Satori production. Now, you may think that it is the
ultimate expression of egotism to name this game "Satori," but in
fact it is not--after all, my name isn't really Rinzai Satori,
and "Satori" is just as good a name for a game as any.
For those of you that don't already know, "satori" is the
name of a state of mind one attempts to achieve through the
meditative techniques of Zen Buddhism--a state in which one is
aware of the Buddha-nature of all things. One of the Japanese
schools of Zen Buddhism is called "Rinzai"--and there you have
it. Well, this game won't make you aware of the Buddha-nature of
anything, and I've never been to Japan, and I'm not even a
Buddhist, but I like the name, and so far I've had a great time
programming these little projects.
Where Xaptron was frantic, Satori is placid. Where Xaptron
was violent, Satori is pacific. Where Xaptron was partially a
satire on computer games, Satori is sincerely an attempt to
provide solitaire-style entertainment. Where Xaptron was yang,
Satori is yin.
The following files are supplied as a part of the Satori
package:
SATORI.DOC - the documentation file you are reading right now.
SATORI.EXE - the Satori executable file.
SATORI.HLP - an on-line help file accessed by using the
"Instructions" button within Satori. Do not modify
this file!!!
SATORI.TIL - the tile data file. This is not a .TIL like those
found with Nels Anderson's Mahjongg. This file
contains both image data and other information
required to play the game.
The Satori .EXE, .TIL, and .HLP files must be kept together
on this disk, that is, in the same subdirectory. If DOS can find
SATORI.EXE, then SATORI.EXE can find the .TIL and .HLP files
(provided you are using DOS 3.0 or later). This means that if
you have a \GAMES directory, and it's on your DOS path, then you
can run Satori from anywhere.
 Registering this Game
Don't. It's not necessary. You may freely distribute this
game to whomever you like, as long as no money changes hands as a
part of the transaction.
If you like the game, pass it on. Instead of sending money
to me, call your grandmother, or donate some money to a charity
or something. If you don't like the game, and you're a
programmer, why not write something better? Lord knows there's a
dearth of good freeware EGA/VGA games out there.
