Description
Segyun-jeon is a strategy game released in 1992 in South Korea. It was developed by Makkoya Entertainment Co., Ltd. and runs on the DOS platform. Segyun-jeon is also
known as Spread Out and is the first video game in South Korea with VGA graphics.
Segyun-Jeon is very similar in gameplay to the board game Reversi, which is played by 2 players on an 8*8 non-checkered game board. Segyun-Jeon, however, is
a single-player game where the player competes against the computer. Both sides control a red or blue disk, designed to look like blobs with faces painted on them.
The opponents take turns in placing the disks on the squares with the objective of capturing the opponent’s disk. The game starts with an empty board and advances
towards having four disks placed in the four corners of the board. If the player manages to place the disks in a straight line, then a disk of the opponent’s color
flips to the player’s side. The player who manages to flip all the opponent’s disks to their own color wins the game. The first few levels of the game are fairly easy
but the difficulty level rises gradually after the fifth or sixth level. Unlike a traditional game of Reversi, Each level in Segyun-jeon has its own starting formation
to avoid repetition. The game board is of a bright green color making the red and blue disks pop out. The expressions on the painted faces on the blobs or disks change
as per the progress of the game.
