Legend Entertainment Company was a Northern Virginia-based developer started in 1989 by Bob Bates and Mike Verdu. Their early games were illustrated text adventures. In 1993, they broke from the text tradition with Companions of Xanth which was their first game to feature a point-and-click interface.

Description
Shannara is a game based on a series of fantasy novels called Shannara fantasy written by Terry Brooks. The player/ protagonist is named Jak Ohmsford. The player's father, Shea is a hero legendary for defeating an evil warlock called Brona. The magical druid Allanon informs Jak about the return of Brona. The way to defeat the warlock is for Jak to wield the legendary sword of Shannara to defeat Brona. Jak has to travel through many lands and meet various races across the land and convince them the join together to join the fight to defeat Brona. The game has many elements that are often used in Role Play games like a top-down map of the world, one on one battles, stats, XP, levels etc.
Shannara gives the player a 1st person perspective and navigating between places is done by skipping forward and backward, scene to scene. The player can also travel via the map. The game has inventory puzzles and talking trees with dialogue options to allow the player a certain level of control on the storyline. The player is allowed to form a party with other characters he meets on the road. Each of these characters is provided with special abilities and their very own inventories. They can help solve many of the smaller puzzles in the game.
