Description
Spell-A-Saurus is an edutainment title that was released in the United States in 1990. It runs on the DOS platform. The game was developed and published by First Byte.
Spell-A-Saurus has a dinosaur theme and is a spelling game for kids. It attempts to build the foundation for reading and writing skills in children. The game starts with making
the children choose the correct spellings for very simple words and then progresses to slightly more difficult words. There are different modes to choose from like Dinolist,
Zug Escape, Astrodrive, Ptera Ptutor, and Spell-A-Saur. The graphics and the main character changes at each of these levels. In some of these levels, the player gets to hear
the word and enter the correct spelling for it. The words are used in a sentence to provide sufficient context. The game is a single-player and can be played with a keyboard.
A keyboard control guide is made available during the game. The graphics are simple and visually appealing. The dinosaurs have been given a comical look and are shown to be
adept at using modern technology. Scores are awarded for every correct word and are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Overall, the game resembles a spelling bee that is
much more fun and entertaining than a contest in an auditorium full of adults. It creates a comfortable learning atmosphere. The dinosaurs add to the overall appeal of
the game to children. Spell-A-Saurus can be considered one of the superior edutainment titles of its time.
