Description
Spheroids is an action game published by Data Becker GmbH & Co. KG in 1993. The game was released in Germany on the DOS platform. It has a Sci-Fi theme.
The game is set in the future when the earth is facing its worst nightmare, a Robot uprising. The robots have acquired high-tech machinery which they are using
to wreak havoc on earth. The player is tasked with gunning down the robots and saving the world from destruction. The Robot ships launch a systematic attack from
all directions, and their barrage is non-stop and happens at regular intervals. To make things easier, the direction of these attacks is indicated beforehand
on the screen using arrow marks. The player has his own spaceship from which he can counter the attack of the robots.
The player’s own spaceship is also of superior technology which can fire in a completely different direction than the one it’s moving in. The spacecraft is
protected with high-quality armor to protect it from robot attacks, however, it remains susceptible to damage under heavy firing. The goal is to destroy as many
robot ships as possible and gather points. There are powerups available, although the player has a very limited supply of weapons at their disposal.
There is also currency available to be collected which can be used to purchase weapons and vehicle updates. The game provides a top-down perspective, and the game
language is German. Overall, Spheroids is an old-fashioned arcade game with enough action to guarantee an adrenaline rush for a short time but not too complicated
which would ensure prolonged engagement of the player.
