Description
StarGlider is an action and adventure game that was released in 1987. The game is available in several platforms like Amiga, Atari ST, Apple II, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and DOS.
The game was developed by Argonaut Software Ltd. And was a significant improvement over many space simulation games of the time. It introduced many new features which paved
the way for future Sci-Fi games.
The game comes with an elaborate storyline that talks about a war between two clans of intergalactic species, the Egrons, and the Novenians, and introduces Novenia’s Sentinel robots
who play a significant role in the war. The player assumes the role of a Sentinel maintenance worker tasked with finding a golden bird called Starglider. The Starglider is nothing but
a disguised form of the enemy clan Ergon’s spacecraft. In Novenia, the Starglider is considered sacred and is therefore not on the radar of their automated defense systems.
Once found, the player needs to destroy the Starglider and prevent Novenia from being attacked by the Ergons. To accomplish this task, the player is equipped with an attack vehicle
loaded with hi-tech software and ammunition. This vehicle is rechargeable, runs at top speed, and has an inbuilt scanner and map of the area. The game provides a first-person
perspective. The player has the option to decide how the vehicle operates, with options to choose between fixed and floated sighting. A centering system is also available to be
enabled or disabled as per the player’s preference. Once the target is identified, it must be shot at and eliminated. Once done, the game moves on to the next level, where the player
must shoot down more of these Stargliders, but will need to face tougher resistance from the Ergons.
