Description
Stocker is a racing game developed by Bally Sente Inc. It was released in Canada and the United States in 1988. The game is available on the DOS
and Commodore 64 platforms.
Stocker is set in the United States, and the player participates in a race that stretches from Florida to California. Instead of a racetrack,
In route are highways, country roads, bridges, water bodies and even living establishments. The player gets only a limited supply of gas, that runs
out in 90 seconds, irrespective of the speed at which the car is moving. Hence, regular stops at the gas station are mandatory. The fuel levels are
indicated at the right side of the screen. The other major challenge is the police and their squad cars which can stop the player at any time and hand
them a ticket. This not only slows down the player but also reduces their score. An altercation with a squad car at times can even end the game.
The other challenges include traffic and other racers which can create a nuisance and slow down the player. To avoid this, the player can venture out
of the freeways into a road less traversed, which are marked by question marks. However, venturing of course can sometimes prove costly as there is no
guarantee that the road would be shorter. The road can also be a rough one, which can further aggravate the problem. On crossing the finish line,
the player is awarded the trophy of World Champion Stocker, and the final scores are displayed on the screen. The game provides a top view perspective.
