Description
The Beverly Hillbillies is an adventure game, based on a popular TV series that aired in the 1960s, which inspired a movie of the same
name. Both the game and the movie were released in 1993. It was developed by Synergistic Software, Inc. and runs on the DOS platform.
The main protagonist in the game is Jed Clampett, a small-time farmer, and landowner who lives in a shack in the Ozark mountains with
his family. They are an impoverished family who struggles to make ends meet. However, the family's fortunes are turned around when Jed
discovers an oil field on his property, making them millionaires overnight. After accumulating huge wealth, the family decides to shift
base to California, into a stunning new home in the upscale Beverly hills. However, their newly accumulated wealth exposes them to a new
kind of threat Jed and his family are unaccustomed to. They fall victim to a bank employee named Tyler and his partner Laura, who hatch
a vicious scheme to blackmail the family. They kidnap the family matriarch, known as Granny Clampett, and lock her up in a bank vault.
To get to the vault Jed needs to solve a series of puzzles. By solving the puzzles, Jed gets access to the ingredients he needs to
concoct a potion that can weaken the vault door and free granny. The game offers a side-view perspective, and the player takes control
of Jed Clampett.
The Beverly Hillbillies mostly received negative reviews once it was released due to its lackluster puzzles and many bugs. It has made
it to the list of 'worst video games ever made'.
