THE DARK CONVERGENCE

INTRODUCTION
============
By the old oak tree, on the far side of the forest, a terrible evil
poured forth under the dim glow of the moon. An evil that bubbles through
to the world of light and sun every century or so in places unfortunate enough
to feel the power of the dark forces. Randall, and his companions Lisa and
David are caught in the horrible web of forces beyond human knowledge. After
facing the cold light of an oncoming non-existent car, Randall's vehicle
collides with a tree along the road. With Lisa in shock, and David lying in
the back seat covered in his own blood, you, Randall must make your way through
the night. The night where unseen things haunt the land. The night where
life and death hang precariously over the edge of the abyss. As Randall leaves
the crippled auto, he realizes that the chances of making it out alive, much
less his friends chances, are extremely low.
THE GAME
========
THE DARK CONVERGENCE is a text/graphic game, the object is to save your friends
but as you will soon find out, saving yourself will be your primary objective.
By typing commands and moving your character you will achieve your goals.
Typing commands will control your character and by solving puzzles and
problems the game can be solved.
SETUP AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
=============================
The Dark Convergence requires a hard drive, an ega card, and 640k of memory.
To install off the floppy disk drive (installation is not required if on the
hard drive) make a directory on the hard drive (e.g. C:\md darkc) go to the
drive where the files are held (e.g. C:\a: or C:\b:) then copy the files
to the specified directory on the hard drive (e.g. b:\copy b:*.* c:\darkc)
then switch to the hard drive directory (e.g. b:\c: then c:\cd \darkc) and
type <darkc> at the prompt (e.g. C:\darkc\darkc)
INSTRUCTIONS
============
To move yourself (Randall) around use the cursor keys to move around in the
corresponding direction thats printed on the key. To get the command prompt
hit the spacebar, or press the enter key. This will also stop movement of you
on the screen. To exit out of the command prompt just hit the return key
again. The command prompt lets you examine things, look around, and make
Randall do things. A common command that should be the first thing you do
when entering a new screen is to type LOOK, to get a feel for your surroundings.
Other important commands are as follows:
INV or INVENTORY - gives you a list of available items that you have on your
person
EXAMINE <OBJECT> - examines the object
LOAD - loads an already saved game, type in the name of the game (the
extension of .sav is automatically put on)
SAVE - saves a game in progress, type in the name to save
TAKE or GET <OBJECT> - adds the object to your inventory assuming of course
there is an object to take
DROP <ITEM> - drops an item on the screen you are currently on
QUIT - quits to dos
There are many specific things you have to do with specific objects but you
will have to find those on your own.
There are a few function key commands available in the walking mode:
F1 - HELP general help screen
F2 - SOUND ON/SOUND OFF turns the sound on or off (* important the sound will
stay off for all subsequent games unless its turned back on)
F3 - BLANK SCREEN blanks the screen, hit any key to return to the game
TIPS
====
Be sure to check everywhere, if you are stuck try everything with all your
objects. Some of the problems are hard, try to do everything possible.

will get the printed documentation bound in manual form of THE DARK CONVERGENCE
and the sequel. Also if you are still in the midst of the game you can request
the clue book on the order form (no additional charge). You will also receive
the sequel THE DARK CONVERGENCE II: the hideous trigoli (more info on that later
in this doc file). There is an order form (named order.frm) on this disk
if you wish to use for your convenience, but is not necessary. The total
registration cost including shipping, handling, and taxes is $10.00 U.S.

HINTS

If you choose not to register but you are stuck then feel free to send a
self addressed stamped envelope with a note saying where you're stuck and
I will send you the answer. Since the only cost is a piece of paper and
a little time, I consider this acceptable customer support. Also feel free
to send any comments, such as whether you like the game, things that you
feel should be changed or added upon taken out. I will take your comments
seriously.

===========================================
Without revealing too much about THE DARK CONVERGENCE, THE DARK CONVERGENCE II
takes place where TDC I leaves off, wandering around the city an evil from
the dimensions beyond are trying to acquire you. Others forces are trying to
help you, who can you trust. Your life and the lives of people you don't know
hang in the balance. Three times as large as TDC, TDCII is more exciting and
challenging. Twice as many items, and 67 ega screens full of strange realms.
Explore the further reaches of the unknown.
