THE GRAPE VINE
INTRODUCTION:
"The Grape Vine" is a fun, educational, and colorful
Bible game. The objective of "The Grape Vine" is to reveal
the hidden Bible phrases letter by letter. Very similar
in play to "Wheel Of Fortune" and "Hangman", but now with a
new twist! "The Grape Vine" is based entirely upon the
Authorized Version of the Holy Bible, 1611, (King James
translation).
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
"The Grape Vine" requires that your system be
equipped with either a EGA or VGA color monitor. A DOS
version of 3.0 or greater will also be required to operate
this program.
LOADING THE PROGRAM:
Insert "The Grape Vine" diskette into a disk drive.
Set you working drive to the same drive in which the
diskette is located. If "The Grape Vine" diskette is in
drive B then at the DOS ">" prompt, make sure "B:>" is
active. To load the program simply type: VINE then press
[ENTER]. The program will load automatically.
OPTIONS:
Up to nine players can play at one time. After
selecting the number that corresponds to the number of
players, each player must enter their name.
After the user(s) have entered their names, one
must make a selection from three different skill
levels - Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Select
the appropriate choice by pressing keys B, I, or A,
accordingly.
If the user wishes to play against the clock,
then answer "Y" (yes) to the "eclipse" prompt. If you
answer "Y" to "eclipse", then watch out for a full eclipse
while playing!
The user also needs to select the method by which
they will uncover letters. The easiest method is to
work on the entire phrase, rather than word by word.
FINDING THE MISSING LETTERS:
To guess the letters to the missing phrases,
simply press the corresponding key on the keyboard. At
first each letter is hidden with a dash, but upon a
correct letter being selected and pressed the dash
disappears and is replaced with the correct letter(s).
Every wrong guess, however, causes a grape or two grapes
(or even three) to fall off of the vine. If the player
completes the hidden phrase before they run out of
grapes, they receive a score based upon the number of
grapes left remaining on the vine. The value for a
remaining grape depends on the skill level selected,
and whether one is uncovering the letters word by word,
or by the complete phrase.
LEAVING THE PROGRAM:
To exit "The Grape Vine" while playing, simply
press the [ESC] key. You will be given an opportunity to
change skill levels if you wish, or to return to D.O.S.
TOP 10 SCORE CHART
If your scores are new high records, they will be
recorded and displayed when you exit the program. If you
find names on the score chart that do not belong to you, or
you wish to wipe the score board "clean", simply delete the
"VINE.SCB" file. A new one will be generated next time you
use the program. The "VINE.SCB" retains the top 10 scores.

CLOSING COMMENTS:
"Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your
heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon
your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them
when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest
by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine
house, and upon thy gates: that your days may be
multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land
which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as
the days of heaven upon the earth" (Deuteronomy 11:18-21).
The purpose behind our writing and distributing
"The Grape Vine" was to increase one's knowledge and
familiarity with the Bible. Our desire was not to
commercialize God's Word, nor to use it in a flippant
and disrespectful manner. A serious attempt has been made
to treat the subject matter with all due respect, while
at the same time hoping to make learning of the Bible
more enjoyable. We hope that no one has been offended in
the process. Your comments are welcome.
