Description
The Playworld is an educational game that was released in 1993 in the United States. It was developed and published by
Broderbund Software Inc. in the DOS platform. The game is aimed at toddlers and preschoolers. It is a modified version of
'the Playroom' which was released in 1989 and has a wider range of objects and settings.
The Playworld was designed to improve a child's cognitive functioning through a variety of animations, puzzles, and games.
The child is made to identify and click on common household items, and for each correct answer is rewarded with prizes.
These prizes can be in the form of exciting games, puzzles, or amusing animations, which help the child learn basic arithmetic
and the alphabet. It can be played with a keyboard or mouse. The game uses bright colors to make it visually attractive
to children. It also uses objects and characters easily identifiable by the kids such as clowns, mickey mouse, bunnies,
fairies, etc. The game also helps improve their problem-solving skills. Unlike the playroom series, the playworld experiments
with settings beyond the house such as parks, castles, and other interesting locations, to keep the kids engaged for hours.
The game helps the children in getting familiar with the objects around them and creates a non-threatening learning
environment. The Playworld became an important tool for home education by introducing several basic concepts to children such
as time telling, basic arithmetic, and improving their reading and reasoning skills. The game aided in preparing the children
for school and the classroom environment.
